Safety as a Core Value

To Burns & Scalo, the single most important aspect of any project is safety.   Safety has always been a core value of our company.  We have a long, rich history of working safe and have made several changes to promote a stronger program. 

Professional Safety Director

We hired a highly credentialed safety professional with a proven track record within the roofing industry.  Reporting directly to the President and the COO, the safety director’s focus is on improving safety performance by reviewing and updating procedures/policies, increasing job inspections and communicating results throughout the organization.  A Safety Review Board has also been established to involve employees in the decision making process.  We have invested in employee training including injury prevention as well as property and auto liability prevention.

With our commitment to constant improvement and responsibilities to our best practice standards and our *Captive Insurance program (W/C, G/L and Auto), you can be assured we are taking every precaution necessary to prevent incidents. 

*RCCS (Roofing Contractors Committed to Safety) is a selected group of 24 top, nationally recognized roofing contractors whose goal is to provide superior insurance protection that meets and exceeds the OSHA safety standards.  Approximately 30 RCCS Best Practice requirements are continually reviewed and updated by the members to ensure the highest possible safety standards are maintained.

Safety Qualifications and Program Summary

• Senior management involvement
• Professional Certified Safety Manager (CSP)
•  CPR/First Aid Field Management Certified – all superintendents and foremen are certified in both CPR and First Aid
• OSHA general requirements training – weekly, monthly, annually
• Superintendents and Project Managers must complete the OSHA 30 hour training
• Pre-shift stretching program
• RCCS superior insurance protection and best practice requirements – we offer insurance coverage limits well above industry standards
• Safety job inspections are documented and reports sent to both senior management and project managers on a weekly basis
• Employee safety work hour incentive program
