Starting on the first rung of the ladder, Jim Scalo has built one of the largest integrated real estate businesses in Western Pennsylvania. Today, Burns & Scalo Real Estate Services leases, manages, develops, acquires, finances and markets commercial real estate throughout the region.
Following his graduation from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1981, Mr. Scalo began his career as a manager of small rental properties owned by Burns & Scalo, a roofing company owned by his father and a partner.

Soon, he expanded that business by taking on the management of larger properties and acting as a commercial developer. In 1985 he was named Director of Development and in recognition of his contributions to growing the firm he was named President in 1990.
Today, Burns & Scalo has grown its business into two groups: owned and non-owned property services. The synergies of the two divisions lead to faster growth.
Born and raised in Peters Township, Mr. Scalo is active in professional, community and charitable organizations.
He is the former president and national board member of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP) and is a board member of the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance (PRA). He is a member of the Allegheny Conference on Community Development, the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors, the International Facilities Managers Association, Southpointe CEO Association, the Pennsylvania Builders Association and numerous Chambers of Commerce.
He also is a member of the board of Junior Achievement of Western Pennsylvania and the Business Partners Committee of the Auberle Development Corporation, a not-for-profit organization that supports
children in need.
Mr. Scalo is associated at a strategic and investment level with Burns & Scalo Roofing, where his brother, Jack, is president.
Mr. Scalo is married, the father of four children and resides in Pittsburgh.
