Burns & Scalo Overcomes Size, Time, and Weather in Reroof Project

Date: August 15, 2011

whirlpoolBurns & Scalo Roofing successfully completed a mega-reroof project for a Whirlpool manufacturing facility in Marion, Ohio.

Burns and Scalo Team members were faced with many challenges in the reroof project. According to Stephen Butcher, branch manager of Burns & Scalo Ohio, "Our crew had to complete a massive amount of work in such a tight timeframe in order to finish the job during our customer's production shutdown," he added, "this was further complicated when we were unable to work for two days because of rain."

To meet the aggressive reroof deadline, Burns & Scalo's 14 person crew extended their work schedules to the late evenings and weekends to complete the tear-off and installation of the 97,000 sq. ft. system.

The project included removal of the existing EPDM membrane and insulation, repairs to the roof deck, and the installation of .060 Carlisle EPDM Fully-Adhered roof membrane over 2" mechanically fastened polyisocyanurate insulation.

According to Butcher, "though this was challenging, it was worth it to ensure our customer was able to startup their production on schedule and know that that the roof over their heads will keep the weather out for many years to come."
